Abortion clinics around Australia are complaining that none of their paid advertisements are appearing in Google searches, with some reporting a drop of up to 50% in bookings.
One clinic director in Sydney claims when she raised it with Google she was told, “All your ads are fine, everything’s okay, it’s approved, there’s nothing we can do.”
Google has designed new rules around abortion advertising intended to prevent pro-life clinics from pretending to offer abortion services, but these rules will only apply to the USA, UK & Ireland.
This doesn’t really explain why Australian abortion clinics’ ads aren’t being displayed, and for now, abortion providers have no way of knowing when their ads will be displayed again.
