Dr Alex Deagon is a lecturer in the Faculty of Law at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. He was recently published in the highly prestigious Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy. He critiques a liberal (‘progressive’) idea that religious doctrines must be excluded from debate on public policy, which has been argued by academics like John Rawls.
Dr Deagon contests that political liberalism actually discriminates against religious people while pretending to be neutral, and is in fact prejudiced about metaphysical concepts that secularism is ill-equipped to give satisfactory answers on.
