Israel Folau granted a rare interview to faithful friend and high profile commentator Alan Jones on Sky News Australia last night.

When asked by Jones what his response is to accusations he’s hurt people’s feelings by his social media posts, Izzy explained his faith is the most important thing to him. Specifically, he feels obliged to obey Mark 16:15-16.

And [Jesus] said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptised will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” Yep, I reckon that would be offensive to someone who refused to believe. Only in an upside down world where hurt feelings trump human rights would that be a problem.

Folau claimed Rugby Australia offered him money to remove the ‘offensive’ post, a claim they have flatly accused him of lying about.

“What’s the most important thing for you now going forward?” Alan asked. Israel Folau answered, “I’m hopeful for an apology from them, an admission that they were wrong. That’ll be something that I would like to get.”

“Do you want to play rugby again?”

“Tomorrow’s the first step.”

Alan Jones concluded the interview by observing, “It’s nice that people can see what kind of person we’re talking about. And all the things that have been said about this young man, I think don’t add up when you actually listen to him speak and watch the way he expresses his faith.”
