Disturbing video shows police in Epping, Victoria, striking a man suffering from bi-polar with their car sending him flying into the air. The police car paused seconds before and then sped up again, striking the man who was walking away from behind.
The man, Timothy Atkins, 32, appears in the video to be agitated and obstructing main road traffic, causing danger to himself and others. Police reported he had become aggressive when they arrived, damaged a police vehicle and attempted to avoid arrest.
Video clearly shows the man attempting to assault police, swinging wildly, before he is capsicum sprayed. He quickly falls to the ground on his hands and knees, all signs of resistance gone before one apparently frustrated officer repeatedly kicks him.
The brief below video from a different angle also appears to show an officer stomping on the man’s head as six officers surround him face down on a traffic island.
The man was taken to hospital and placed in an induced coma.
Mr Atkins’ father revealed his son sought treatment at a Melbourne hospital which had no beds prior to the incident, and urged his family to come be with him.
They were not allowed to because of Victoria’s movement restrictions.
